Hey, listen! Have you ever thought about what it’s like when the party at your wedding isn’t lively, but rather sluggish? \ud83d\ude2c That’s exactly what this article of mine will be about! It might hit a bit close to home for some service providers, and I apologize in advance if I offend anyone. But my goal is clear: to highlight that the feeling of “I saved money” can often end up being very expensive, especially on the big day! \ud83d\udcb8<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udcb0 The budget: Where saving often gets expensive!<\/h2>\n\n

Budget\u2026 that word that makes every engaged couple’s heart beat a little faster. \ud83d\udc94 There’s always that certain “psychological limit” you don’t want to cross. Once you have the venue and date, it’s time to hunt for vendors! And as the items accumulate, so does the thought “where can I save money?” Familiar, isn’t it? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n

I have previously outlined the prices of music providers in Budapest and the countryside. Now I will repeat that golden truth, which cannot be emphasized enough: if you want to save money, DO NOT DO IT ON THE MUSIC PROVIDER!<\/strong> Seriously! \ud83d\udce2 <\/p>\n\n

Now, let’s get to the real truth: “The cheap will end up being very expensive!”<\/strong> My colleague Dj Veress Attila and I have discussed this so many times, and every single word of it is golden. Gold! \u2728<\/p>\n\n

I’ve been to a wedding where the groom would have gladly sent the best man home \u2013 and I would have completely understood. In my heart, I would have helped him, but it wasn’t my day! \ud83e\udd37\u200d\u2640\ufe0f But a DJ… well, you can’t send him away! Because then the dancing ends, the party ends. Imagine the shock on the guests’ faces! \ud83d\ude31<\/p>\n\n

“I see you’re not a DJ just to make a living,” a groom once jokingly said during a meeting. We both laughed, but if you think about it, this sentence perfectly describes the difference between service providers. Whether it’s a master of ceremonies, a wedding host, or a band: the difference in quality and price is not accidental! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n

Pro tip<\/strong>: Coordinate with the photographer and videographer beforehand! We’ll tell you when and where the show will be, so they can prepare for stunning shots. Slow-motion clips with fireworks are especially impactful! \ud83c\udfac<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udc8e A good DJ isn’t cheap \u2013 and you know why?<\/h2>\n\n

Wedding DJs who really know what they’re doing, can maintain a fantastic atmosphere all night long, and are particular about their work? Well, they certainly charge for their services! And why shouldn’t they? \ud83e\udd14<\/p>\n\n

They are the ones who are constantly educating themselves, hunting for new technical gadgets, and developing their equipment. You know, we also have this phenomenon where we easily spend 600-800 thousand Forints annually on technical innovations<\/strong>. This is not a luxury, but a tool for work, which guarantees that your party will also be of an increasingly high standard! \ud83d\ude80 <\/p>\n\n

Sure, I could spend this money on myself, go to parties with cheap, “Chinese market” lights and one or two erratically flashing effect ramps, as unfortunately many do. I could stick with a basic DJ setup, playing the same ’90s eurodance hits mixed with 2000s pop music, in a fixed, pre-planned order, and waiting for it to end. But then I would just be a “subsistence DJ.” And you don’t deserve that! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udd04 The exception proves the rule \u2013 but only sometimes!<\/h2>\n\n

Okay, okay, I’m going to contradict myself a little bit now! \ud83d\ude05 Not every “cheap” DJ is “bad”! There are young talents who are gifted, but are still gaining experience and saving money for professional gear. They will be the “expensive DJs” of the future \u2013 but they are still at the beginning of their careers. Give them a chance if you want something new and fresh! \ud83c\udf1f<\/p>\n\n

But! Those colleagues who have been flashing the same cheesy, annoying disco lights for 5-10-20 years and don’t invest in development, well… they are professionally stuck. They just want to take money from the party. You don’t want a DJ like that to play “Despacito” and “Macarena” non-stop for hours, do you? \ud83d\ude05<\/p>\n\n

And there’s also that colleague who would very much like to develop, but due to “rural disco culture” and solvent demand, cannot step out of their comfort zone. That’s another story. \ud83e\udd14<\/p>\n\n

And then comes the other golden truth: Not every expensive DJ is “good”!<\/strong> Good marketing, great references, and a professional introduction material do not guarantee a party! Their Instagram page might be pretty, but do they know when to play “Gangnam Style” to get everyone on their feet, or is the wedding party more tuned into 2000s R&B hits? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n

It is really difficult to judge a DJ’s work sight unseen. With a photographer, you see the pictures, with a band, you hear the demo, but with a DJ, you have to rely more on intuition, sympathy, and references. \ud83e\udd1d “This price is high, but we can afford it” \u2013 Or, why don’t we haggle?<\/h2>\n\n

The sentence sounds familiar, right? “The price is high, but we can still afford it!” Every colleague has heard this before. But do you know what the situation is? Unfortunately, the wedding season is short, so it’s not worth it for any service provider to engage in major bargaining. Why? \ud83e\udd14<\/p>\n\n

There are a finite number of weekends in a year, so most professional DJs \u2013 if they also want some private life \u2013 take on a maximum of 20-30 weddings a year. For a popular Saturday in peak season, 5-10 concrete requests easily come in. If someone finds the price too high, the DJ unfortunately lets them go, because the next couple will accept the offer. That’s the way business is, there’s nothing to do about it. \ud83e\udd37\u200d\u2640\ufe0f <\/p>\n\n

Of course, colleagues are more likely to give discounts for a weekday wedding, but don’t count on it on Fridays and Saturdays! Supply and demand, that’s how it is. \ud83d\udcc8<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udcca What’s cheap and what’s expensive? A little market research\u2026 <\/h2>\n\n

Obviously, this is relative, and every budget says something different. But I delved into market research, and months ago, I called all my colleagues. I filtered out interesting things! There were rural DJs, Budapest DJs, and even young padawans from “DJ factories” (these are the ones who work with several younger disk jockeys, but the boss provides the background). \ud83e\udd2f<\/p>\n\n

The “Expensive” DJ \u2013 Quality that’s Worth It<\/h3>\n\n

In the more expensive segment, where you get professional service similar to ours, I found hardly any difference in prices. Let’s talk about a difference of 10-20-30 thousand forints, at most. Typically, package deals start from HUF 150,000<\/strong>, and with extras (lighting, sound system, etc.) they can easily go up to HUF 200,000-250,000. \ud83d\ude80 <\/p>\n\n

To this, the cost of travel (on average 60-100 Ft\/km) and, if you go further, accommodation, can be added. After a party that lasts until dawn, no one will want to drive several hundred kilometers home after being awake for 20-24 hours. Isn’t that reasonable? \ud83d\ude34<\/p>\n\n

Of course, there was a colleague who offered their services for 100-150 thousand more than the average, and I even encountered a nearly 3-fold price. But these were rather extreme cases. \ud83e\udd11<\/p>\n\n

The “cheap” DJ \u2013 Where money does not equal value<\/h3>\n\n

And here came the surprise! The prices of colleagues in the “cheaper” category also ranged between HUF 120,000 and HUF 160,000<\/strong> on average. This is only HUF 20,000-30,000 less than a premium offer! \ud83e\udd2f <\/p>\n\n

This is rough because they provide much cheaper, lower-quality equipment! In other words, in terms of price\/value, you often end up spending more than with a more expensive, but professional DJ! Isn’t that absurd? \ud83e\udd26\u200d\u2640\ufe0f Couples unfortunately often forget to consider this, and then comes the feeling of “watered down soup” on the wedding day. \ud83d\udc94<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udc51 Let’s make music for the elite \u2013 The price of prestige<\/h2>\n\n

There’s a layer of people who choose a service provider for prestige. They don’t necessarily get 2-3 times higher quality, but they can tell their friends they hired the “DJ of the Year” or the trendiest celebrity photographer. The real “flex”! \ud83d\udcaa If such an exclusive inquiry comes in, don’t be surprised if the pen presses a little harder! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n

\u23f3 Last minute wedding DJ \u2013 Haste and risk<\/h2>\n\n

And of course, there’s the case of the “late-rising couple,” which happens every year! \ud83d\ude34 Many people think a wedding is in a few months, so it’s time to hunt for a DJ! Unfortunately, most professional service providers are booked up even 1 year in advance. This is when panic sets in! \ud83d\ude31<\/p>\n\n

In such cases, there are two options:<\/p>\n\n
