Do you dream of a perfect wedding where everything is in its place? 👰♀️🤵♂️ Then choosing the venue will be the first and perhaps most important step, laying the foundation for the mood and smoothness of the entire day! Don’t let a bad decision overshadow your big day, read our tips to avoid pitfalls! ⬇️
Imagine! 💭 The elegance of a downtown luxury restaurant, the romance of an event boat swaying on the waves of the Danube, the eternal panorama of a Lake Balaton hotel, or a hidden gem in the heart of the countryside, a lakeside idyll, or deep in a fairytale forest… There are so many dream venues for your wedding that one gets dizzy! 💃 But besides the wonderful Instagram-compatible photos and the “wow” factor, what else should you definitely pay attention to to make your big day not just beautiful, but truly perfect?
It’s no secret that choosing a wedding venue is a real “first date” with the wedding itself – and of course, almost everyone starts there! 💍 Most of the quote requests we receive at the Wedding DJ team also come in with the venue already “set in stone.” And indeed, sometimes we clutch our hearts when we see the name: 🤦♀️ “If only they had asked us (or the photographer, videographer) for a quick phone call before booking!” But is it really that important for us, service providers, to meddle in venue selection? 🤔
The question is right: what do we, DJs, photographers, filmmakers, have to do with where you say “I do”? The only word: experience! 💡 We’ve been “to places” and seen “things” that would never cross your mind in the honeymoon bliss or the organizational hustle. We immediately notice the small signs that could later cause a big headache… and we’ll tell you about them! 😉
Okay, sure, we all look at the venue through different “glasses,” but there are some fundamental things we agree on, as if we were just swapping Grandma’s cookie recipe! 🤫 We, providers, certainly share “good stories” and “pitfalls” with each other – for your benefit! A poorly chosen venue can definitely ruin our day, and of course, the party’s atmosphere. 😫
Imagine this: for a wedding DJ, sometimes packing up is like a Mount Everest expedition if the venue is difficult to access, there’s no parking, or the venue’s team is so “prepared” it’s as if it’s their first wedding. 🙈 Then there’s the power! Will there be enough juice for the civil ceremony’s sound system and the dance floor? Or will we be plunged into darkness for the “lightbulb” song? ⚡ But the dinner venue can also be the party’s “mood killer”: guests scattered across multiple rooms (find the bride in the kitchen! 🕵️♀️), bad ventilation, or worst of all: no air conditioning! A wedding party of 100 people quickly turns into a sauna, making even the DJ sweat behind their ears. 🥵
And if you add inflexible staff who look at you as if you were an intruder, then our hair stands on end! Of course, we do everything we can to make sure the wedding guests don’t notice, but believe me, sometimes we carry out serious “operations” behind the scenes for success. 🤫 Of course, we never name specific locations, but at our personal meetings and online discussions, we are happy to tell “stories” from behind the scenes. 😉
But similar difficulties can arise, for example, if the filmmaker doesn’t have enough space to move and capture perfect shots at the civil ceremony venue, or if, despite their best efforts, the photographer can’t find an angle where the various “drink-branded” parasols or the beer cooler in the background aren’t visible, even during the opening dance. 📸 These things can ruin the final result in an instant, and unfortunately, they can’t be fixed afterward. 💔
We wish we could say these are just made-up stories, but sadly, a thick book could be written about the venues that look beautiful in pictures but are a real “prank” for a wedding in reality. 😵 Of course, we must add, sometimes we also hear sentences like “You are so much more professional, you wouldn’t believe what last week’s wedding DJ did here.” So, good venues probably also have their own list of “unsuitable for wedding” service providers! 😂 But we are now looking at things from your perspective, so that your big day is truly yours, and not an “adventure park” for service providers. 🎢
Now let’s get down to business! 🥁 We have collected some aspects and questions for you that are worth paying attention to when choosing a wedding venue. These are not just “good advice,” but real “life-saving” tips that can help you avoid later stress and surprises. 🦸♀️
1. How do we get there? Approach, parking, accommodation for the wedding party 🚗🛏️
Okay, a beautiful, secluded forest guesthouse or a winery nestled on a vineyard sounds like a movie set, right? 🤩 But imagine your guests trying to figure out where happiness is after the tenth “crooked-branched walnut tree,” or burning their clutch going up a dirt road! We DJs sometimes call these “clutch-smelling” venues… 😅 And don’t forget: if there’s no signal, mobile internet, or WiFi, tell your guests in advance that it will be a “digital detox” and not to look for Google Maps in the middle of nowhere! 📵
Or let’s turn it around! A bustling downtown hotel or restaurant in the heart of Budapest? Great! Everyone can get there in no time on foot or by public transport. 🚶♀️🚇 But! Parking… that’s another story. If you have guests from outside the city, finding a parking space in the urban jungle can be like a survival tour. 🤯
Pay special attention if you are preparing for a Danube boat wedding! 🚢 Unfortunately, there have been cases where the boat company “forgot” to mention that the quay would be closed on the day of the wedding… Imagine when the guests and we, service providers, are waiting on the Danube bank while the boat is waiting! No entry permit, nothing. A little awkward, isn’t it? 😬
If you are expecting many relatives and friends from the countryside, then look into accommodation options at the venue, or if there aren’t any there, ask for information about hotels, guesthouses for rent, etc. in the vicinity. A professional wedding venue will also help you with this. And more importantly: are you the “exclusive” guests, or do you have to share the hotel with others? You probably wouldn’t be happy if you spent your wedding night “next door” to a strange couple. 😉
2. The “inner world” of the venue: layout and comfort 🤔✨
The perfect wedding venue doesn’t just look good in pictures, it’s also comfortable and practical in real life! 🧑🤝🧑 Lately, it’s become extra cool to hold the civil ceremony at the same venue as the dinner and party. For this, you need a beautiful, green garden where you can easily say “I do!” in good weather. 🌳 But what if the sky starts to cry? 🌧️ It’s essential to have a “Plan B,” an indoor venue where the ceremony can still be held, and guests won’t get soaked. You can confidently entrust the sound system for the civil ceremony to us, the wedding DJ! We guarantee that everyone will hear the important words, and the music will be just right. 🎶
What about cigarette breaks, or those who just want some fresh air before they hit the dance floor again? A covered terrace is a godsend! 🌬️ But beware! Don’t let the different rooms be so far apart that guests have to “hunt” for the cake cutting, first dance or bridal dance in different corners of the venue. Nobody wants to play “Pokemon Go” at your wedding! 🚶♀️🚶♂️ And if your guests have to wade through stairs from the restroom to the dance floor, that won’t be their “favorite” activity either, believe me! Avoid such “towering” arrangements! 🏢
Air conditioning? Ventilation? Critically important questions! 🥵 In an empty room, everything seems perfect, but imagine 80-100 wedding guests “heating up” the room! Unfortunately, many places still don’t have air conditioning, or if they do, it’s so “fake” in performance that it only circulates warm air. 💨 We DJs often experience firsthand that the air conditioners fail in the fight, and guests flee outdoors. So, inquire about the performance, not just the mere fact that “there is air conditioning”!
And last but not least: the restrooms! 🚽 I know, it sounds funny, but many venues “save” on this. Can you imagine 90-100 guests queuing in front of a single toilet while the party is at its peak? 😮💨 This is not exactly the dream version of a “community-building program”. Men and women together in one room? Oh, yes, unfortunately that has happened! Ask about their number and cleanliness, believe me, your guests will be grateful! 🙏
3. “Quietly, but let the party go on!” – Restrictions that can ruin the mood 🔇⏰
This is every wedding DJ’s nightmare! 😱 When we haven’t even unloaded yet, and the venue’s “sound engineer” comes up and says, “If the music is blasting here, I’m cutting the power!” Of course, we try to be understanding, but starting with such a “welcome” is hardly a foundation for trust. 😬
You need to know, a professional wedding DJ knows exactly when and what volume is needed. We work with premium equipment, and the key to a good party is not “blaring” volume, but well-selected, quality music ! 🎶 (Just think about when a ’90s pop anthem, or a 2000s Ricky Martin hit, or even a current Lizzo song plays! These songs sound enjoyable at the right volume, they don’t need to be “screaming.”) So we won’t party unnecessarily loudly, but there’s a certain level below which the atmosphere simply dies. 💔 And unfortunately, there are places where we encounter ridiculous restrictions. 📉
Pro tip: Ask if there are “sensitive” neighbors in the area, and what exactly the volume restrictions mean! In some places, you could be whispering in the middle of the dance floor, and they’d still find it too loud! 🤫 If this is the case, discuss it with the wedding DJ to see if they can provide high-quality service while adhering to the given limits. 🎧
The other thing: the length of the night party and the extension fee! 💰 Many venues only allow the party for a certain period, and then the extra costs come. But how long can the party go on for the extra money? There have been cases where the couple thought they could dance until dawn for 30,000 Ft/hour, while the venue stated that this amount was only for a maximum of one hour, after which it was “cinderella feeling”, the party was over! 🎃 Clarify before signing the contract how long their operating license is valid, and under what conditions you can continue partying! Don’t be unpleasantly surprised when the best song plays, and it’s “suddenly” over! 🚫
4. Communication is “chemistry”: from inquiry to the big day 📞💬
Just like with a good DJ, communication is key with a good venue! 🔑 If you have to wait weeks for a quote, they don’t answer your calls, or they “forget” when you arranged something with them, then this is a huge red flag! 🚩 Think about it: if this is the pace now, what will it be like in the last few weeks before the big day, when every minute counts? You’ll probably experience the same “attentiveness”! 😬
Who are we? The Wedding DJ team has experience with over 1000 corporate parties and weddings. Our goal: uncompromising quality, professional attitude, and sound and lighting technology that excels in both visuals and acoustics. In addition, our extra services enhance the party experience.
We know of couples who changed venues because they didn’t feel the flexibility, and their “what’s important” list didn’t match the venue management at all. If you feel such “vibes” from the beginning, it’s better to look for a new venue, even if you have to give up some “dream” ideas. Rather a slightly modified dream than a nightmare on the big day! 😰
Most wedding venues, by the way, work with super helpful, professional event organizers who really take the burden off your shoulders. Don’t compromise for a “beautiful lake and garden” if it’s clear from the outset that organizing will be a continuous obstacle course! 🚧
Is the perfect wedding party still in front of your eyes, but you don’t want to leave it to chance? 🤯 Are you tired of “cheap DJs” who just put on a playlist and the atmosphere is unbearably boring? There’s nothing worse than an empty dance floor on your big day! 💔
Imagine: your guests dancing until dawn to 90s dance hits (e.g., Dr. Alban, Culture Beat), 2000s pop icon music (e.g., Britney Spears, Robbie Williams), and the latest TikTok trends (e.g., Harry Styles, Dua Lipa)! 💃🕺 A modern, energetic DJ who reads the crowd’s minds and creates an atmosphere that even grandma will dance to! This isn’t just music, it’s an experience! ✨
Frequently asked questions
When should you start looking for a venue?
Ideally 12-18 months before the wedding, to have enough time to find and book the perfect one, especially if it’s a popular date.
What is the most important consideration when choosing a location?
The atmosphere of the venue, its suitability for the number of guests, and smooth communication are crucially important. Don’t just rely on photos!
Why is service provider feedback important for the venue?
Wedding service providers also have a practical understanding of the venue’s features (e.g., electricity, loading in), and can flag potential pitfalls in advance.
Is there a “bad” wedding venue?
Nothing is inherently bad, but some things are misleading. What looks good in photos might, in reality, compromise guests’ comfort.
