Now, let’s get to the real truth: “The cheap will end up being very expensive!” My colleague Dj Veress Attila and I have discussed this so many times, and every single word of it is golden. Gold! ✨
I’ve been to a wedding where the groom would have gladly sent the best man home – and I would have completely understood. In my heart, I would have helped him, but it wasn’t my day! 🤷♀️ But a DJ… well, you can’t send him away! Because then the dancing ends, the party ends. Imagine the shock on the guests’ faces! 😱
“I see you’re not a DJ just to make a living,” a groom once jokingly said during a meeting. We both laughed, but if you think about it, this sentence perfectly describes the difference between service providers. Whether it’s a master of ceremonies, a wedding host, or a band: the difference in quality and price is not accidental! 😉

💎 A good DJ isn’t cheap – and you know why?
Wedding DJs who really know what they’re doing, can maintain a fantastic atmosphere all night long, and are particular about their work? Well, they certainly charge for their services! And why shouldn’t they? 🤔
They are the ones who are constantly educating themselves, hunting for new technical gadgets, and developing their equipment. You know, we also have this phenomenon where we easily spend 600-800 thousand Forints annually on technical innovations. This is not a luxury, but a tool for work, which guarantees that your party will also be of an increasingly high standard! 🚀
Sure, I could spend this money on myself, go to parties with cheap, “Chinese market” lights and one or two erratically flashing effect ramps, as unfortunately many do. I could stick with a basic DJ setup, playing the same ’90s eurodance hits mixed with 2000s pop music, in a fixed, pre-planned order, and waiting for it to end. But then I would just be a “subsistence DJ.” And you don’t deserve that! 😉
🔄 The exception proves the rule – but only sometimes!
Okay, okay, I’m going to contradict myself a little bit now! 😅 Not every “cheap” DJ is “bad”! There are young talents who are gifted, but are still gaining experience and saving money for professional gear. They will be the “expensive DJs” of the future – but they are still at the beginning of their careers. Give them a chance if you want something new and fresh! 🌟
But! Those colleagues who have been flashing the same cheesy, annoying disco lights for 5-10-20 years and don’t invest in development, well… they are professionally stuck. They just want to take money from the party. You don’t want a DJ like that to play “Despacito” and “Macarena” non-stop for hours, do you? 😅
And there’s also that colleague who would very much like to develop, but due to “rural disco culture” and solvent demand, cannot step out of their comfort zone. That’s another story. 🤔

The sentence sounds familiar, right? “The price is high, but we can still afford it!” Every colleague has heard this before. But do you know what the situation is? Unfortunately, the wedding season is short, so it’s not worth it for any service provider to engage in major bargaining. Why? 🤔
There are a finite number of weekends in a year, so most professional DJs – if they also want some private life – take on a maximum of 20-30 weddings a year. For a popular Saturday in peak season, 5-10 concrete requests easily come in. If someone finds the price too high, the DJ unfortunately lets them go, because the next couple will accept the offer. That’s the way business is, there’s nothing to do about it. 🤷♀️
Of course, colleagues are more likely to give discounts for a weekday wedding, but don’t count on it on Fridays and Saturdays! Supply and demand, that’s how it is. 📈
📊 What’s cheap and what’s expensive? A little market research…
Obviously, this is relative, and every budget says something different. But I delved into market research, and months ago, I called all my colleagues. I filtered out interesting things! There were rural DJs, Budapest DJs, and even young padawans from “DJ factories” (these are the ones who work with several younger disk jockeys, but the boss provides the background). 🤯
The “Expensive” DJ – Quality that’s Worth It
In the more expensive segment, where you get professional service similar to ours, I found hardly any difference in prices. Let’s talk about a difference of 10-20-30 thousand forints, at most. Typically, package deals start from HUF 150,000, and with extras (lighting, sound system, etc.) they can easily go up to HUF 200,000-250,000. 🚀
To this, the cost of travel (on average 60-100 Ft/km) and, if you go further, accommodation, can be added. After a party that lasts until dawn, no one will want to drive several hundred kilometers home after being awake for 20-24 hours. Isn’t that reasonable? 😴
Of course, there was a colleague who offered their services for 100-150 thousand more than the average, and I even encountered a nearly 3-fold price. But these were rather extreme cases. 🤑
The “cheap” DJ – Where money does not equal value
And here came the surprise! The prices of colleagues in the “cheaper” category also ranged between HUF 120,000 and HUF 160,000 on average. This is only HUF 20,000-30,000 less than a premium offer! 🤯
This is rough because they provide much cheaper, lower-quality equipment! In other words, in terms of price/value, you often end up spending more than with a more expensive, but professional DJ! Isn’t that absurd? 🤦♀️ Couples unfortunately often forget to consider this, and then comes the feeling of “watered down soup” on the wedding day. 💔
👑 Let’s make music for the elite – The price of prestige
There’s a layer of people who choose a service provider for prestige. They don’t necessarily get 2-3 times higher quality, but they can tell their friends they hired the “DJ of the Year” or the trendiest celebrity photographer. The real “flex”! 💪 If such an exclusive inquiry comes in, don’t be surprised if the pen presses a little harder! 😉
⏳ Last minute wedding DJ – Haste and risk
And of course, there’s the case of the “late-rising couple,” which happens every year! 😴 Many people think a wedding is in a few months, so it’s time to hunt for a DJ! Unfortunately, most professional service providers are booked up even 1 year in advance. This is when panic sets in! 😱
In such cases, there are two options:
- Or you choose someone from that narrow circle who is still available.
- Or the chosen DJ has free capacity, and if they’re in a good mood, they’ll give a last-minute discount. Or quite the opposite: they’ll charge a lot because they know you don’t have time to choose! 🤷♀️ Don’t risk it!
